He pursued his higher education at the University of Bradford and the University of Sussex, where he earned a degree in international development and a master’s degree in globalisation, poverty and development respectively.

Lloyd Russell-Moyle began his political journey as a young activist and a member of The Woodcraft Folk, a movement for cooperative children and young people. He also held the position of vice president of the European Youth Forum, a platform for youth organisations in Europe. He also consulted at the UN.

He contested for the Lewes constituency as a parliamentary candidate for the Labour Co-operative Party in the 2015 general election but finished fourth. He became a councillor on Brighton and Hove City Council in August 2016, and then ran for and won the Brighton Kemptown seat in 2017. He has been part of the left-wing Socialist Campaign Group parliamentary caucus since 2019.

  • In 2020, he blamed JK Rowling for exploiting her past incidents of domestic violence and sexual assault as a rationale for discriminating against individuals in the transgender community. He later apologised and deleted his tweet, after facing backlash from Rowling’s fans and fellow MPs.
